Roy Ashton
Roy Ashton is a wilderness and mountain guide, and qualified Zen coach who has lived and worked on four continents, including time spent with various African hunter-gatherer cultures. After graduating from the University of Cambridge (UK) and gaining an MA in Environmental Leadership at Naropa University (USA), he trained as a holistic naturalist at the Wilderness Awareness School (USA), practising nature observation, survival skills and wildlife tracking.
He has since taught bush skills to adults and children of diverse backgrounds. Roy leads specialist programs in various parts of South Africa and facilitates transformative processes in nature, through guiding youth rites-of-passage and adult wilderness trails and workshops. He is one of the few people in the world capable of making fire by rubbing sticks in an upward motion, the so-called “Creator’s Fire”.
